Eat Real Food
Green House Green Light Project
PLACE: Parmesan's Pizzeria in Kimberling City, MO
START DATE: JUNE 13, 2011 ESTIMATED COMPLETION DATE: June 2012 GOAL: Bring year-round sustainability to local pizza shop. Eat Real Food is at it again! Eat Real Food will film the third episode of their television pilot, Saving The Farm. The project consists of building a 32’ x 14’ hoop house in the back lot of Parmesan’s Pizzeria, along with a traditional garden. The hoop house will provide sustainable year-round tomatoes and herbs for the restaurant. The planting system designed by Eat Real Food will allow Parmesan’s to have enough tomatoes to make their sauce from their own backyard. Paul Allen, Founder of Eat Real Food, announced the plans for the inauguration of the project: “Eat Real Food is so excited to get our hands dirty and bring this project to life! We are ready to go out of business to make it happen. Tell me what other non-profit does that? We are in talks with local cover band ‘Pearl’ to cover the grand opening of the garden, which will be some time in mid July. It’s going to be an all day celebration!" Eat Real Food's |
Eat Real Food’s plan includes an urban garden with raised beds for herbs on the deck and traditional rows for heirloom tomatoes below the deck that overlook Table Rock lake. The hoop house will include automated thermostat controls, solar wind panels and a commercial grade exhaust fan to control flex. Eat Real Food is looking for donations of building materials, irrigation fixtures, garden decorations, lights and most importantly volunteers willing to donate their time and labor.
